In the first chapter of Shukla Yajurveda, the deities Savita, Yajna, Vishnu, Agni, Prajapati, Apsvitarau, Indra, Vayu and Dyuvidyutau are prayed. His sages are Parmeshthi and Prajapati. The verses used in these are Brihati, Ushnik, Tristup, Jagati, Anushtup, Pankti, Gayatri. There are total 31 mantras in it.
ॐ इषे त्वोर्जे त्वा वायव स्थ देवो वः सविता प्रार्पयतु श्रेष्ठतमायकर्मणs आप्यायध्वमध्याऽइन्द्राय भागं प्रजावतीर- नमीवाऽअयक्ष्मा मा वस्तेनऽईशत माघश सोध्रुवाऽअस्मिन् गौपतौ स्यात बह्वीर्यजमानस्य पशून्याहि ।। 1 ।।
O branch! We clean you to get juice and strength. And we accept you for the rain that is the fruit of Palash Yagya. Hey cows! You are in the playground, so leave your mother and go quickly to a distant country. May the wind god be your protector. Hey cows! May the Jyotirman Parmatma grant you the Trina Gochar Bhoomi for the best Yagya-karma, which is inspirational and full of divine-qualities. Hey non-violent cows! Consuming grain in the form of grass with an undiluted mind and being fearless, increase milk in the form of Bhag in every way for the sake of Indra. Diseaseless, Apatyavati! You stay in the shelter of this host. No thief etc. evil should harm you. O branch situated at a high place! Be the protector of all animals.
वसोः पवित्रमसि द्यौरसि पृथिव्यसि मातरिश्वनो धर्मोऽसि विश्वधाऽ असि | परमेण धाम्ना दूधन्हस्व मा ह्वार्मा ते यज्ञपतिर्द्धाषित् ॥ 2 ॥
O merciful, holy one! You are going to purify the desired milk of Indra. You stay at this place. O vessel of milk! You are helpful in getting the rain giving. You are made of clay, so is the earth. O earthen vessel! You are the place of circulation of air and you are the form of Trilokya by wearing Havi. May the bearer of your milk be full of glory. If you are crooked, then many problems will arise, so remain as you are.
वसोः पवित्रमसि शतधारं वसोः पवित्रमसि सहस्त्रधारम् । देवस्त्वा सविता पुनातु वसोः पवित्रेण शतधारेण सुष्वा कामधुक्षः ॥ 3 ॥
You are the holy sieves to purify the milk. May the God sanctify the milk that has been purified by a hundred-edged sieve after corroding the thousand-edged milk on this handi. O men who exploit milk! Which of these cows have you milked?
सा विश्वायुः सा विश्वकर्मा सा विश्वधायाः । इन्द्रस्य त्वा भाग सोमेनातनच्मि विष्णो हव्यछ रक्ष॥ 4 ॥
We have asked you about the harnessed cow, that cow is going to increase the life of the sacrificer Ritvij and also increases the life of the host. All the works are accomplished by that cow which edits all the works. That cow is the nurturer of all the sacrificial deities. The milk which is part of Indra, we coagulate it by curdling it with the juice of Somvalli. Oh God who pervades all and is the protector of all. This sacrifice is worthy of protection, so protect it.
अग्ने व्रतपते व्रतं चरिष्यामि तच्छकेयं तन्मे राध्यताम् । इदमहमन्तात् सत्यमुपैमि ॥ 5 ॥
O Realist, Aishwarya-rich, Agni, the editor of Yajna, by your grace, we are performing this ritual. May we be able to do this and may this ritual of ours be completed smoothly.
कस्त्वा युनक्ति स त्वा युनक्ति कस्मै त्वा युनक्ति तस्मै त्वा युनक्ति । कर्मणे वां वेषाय वाम् ॥ 6 ॥
Vessels are the ones who hold the water filled with God. By whom and for what purpose have you been appointed for this work? All actions are performed for the worship of the Supreme Lord, so you have been appointed in this action only for the pleasure of that Supreme Lord. Hey Shurpagnihotra Havani! You have been accepted for the sake of Yagya Karma. You have to perform many actions, that’s why we accept you.
