The first Dashati of Agneya Kand, the first chapter of Samveda Purvarchik, is dedicated to Lord Agni. Its sages are Bhardwaj, Medhatithi, Ushana, Suditipurumidhauvangirsau and Vamdev. The verse used in this is Gayatri. There are total 10 mantras in it and all the mantras are dedicated to Agni Dev.
अग्न आ याहि वीतये गुणानो हव्यदातये। नि होता सत्सि बर्हिषि ॥ 1 ॥
In this mantra, while praying to Agni Dev, the sage says – Oh God of fire. Everyone praised you, because you are the giver of all and the world is widespread in the universe. You get us for knowledge and good things.
त्वमग्ने यज्ञानां होता विश्वेषां हितः। देवेभिर्मानुषे जने ॥ 2 ॥
The sage says through this mantra – O fire! You are the benefactor of human society through scholars and divine substances and the giver of all good practices.
अग्निं दूतं वृणीमहे होतारं विश्ववेदसम् । अस्य यज्ञस्य सुक्रतुम् ॥ 3 ॥
Here sages say – We praise Agni (God) who is the best creator of this worldly sacrifice and punisher of sinners.
अग्निर्वृत्राणि जंघनद् द्रविणस्युर्विपन्यया । समिद्धः शुक्र आहुतः ॥ 4 ॥
Sages say – Faced with praise and worship, pure form and the master of all riches, Agni destroys the darkness of the ignorant.
प्रेष्ठं वो अतिथिं स्तुषे मित्रमिव प्रियम्। अग्ने रथन्न वेद्यम् ॥ 5 ॥
Rishi says in his praise – O fire! Dear like a friend and knowable like the sun, I praise you Lord, who is not bound by time and very dear.
त्वन्नो अग्ने महोभिः पाहि विश्वस्या अरातेः । उत द्विषो मर्त्यस्य ॥ 6 ॥
Here the sage asks for the best qualities from the god Agni and says – O Agni, by great qualities and deeds, by the feelings of all charity and by the contact of a man who hates! You saved us
एह्यूषु ब्रवाणि तेऽग्न इत्थेतरा गिरः । एभिर्वर्धास इन्दुभिः ॥ 7 ॥
Rishi says – O fire! May I speak your Vedamayi speech or praise better than the speech of humans. In this way you get me and increase me through these Yajnadis.
आ ते वत्सो मनो यमत् परमाच्चित्सधस्थात् । अग्ने त्वां कामये गिरा ॥ 8 ॥
The sage prays to Agni Dev and says – O Agni! The living being in the form of your son, who lives with you in the heart-country, receives knowledge worthy of contemplation from you, the Supreme Lord. I also pray to you through praise.
त्वामग्ने पुष्करादध्यथर्वा निरमन्थत। मूर्ध्वो विश्वस्य वाघतः ॥ १ ॥
Rishi says in his prayer – Agni! The great non-violent yogi finds you in the space of the heart and the wise see you amidst the base world of material objects.
अग्ने विवस्वदाभरास्मभ्यमूतये महे। देवो ह्यसि नो दृशे ॥ 10 ॥
Through this mantra, the sage asks for the best knowledge for himself and says – O fire! Surely you are for our knowledge, so give us ignorance-preventing knowledge for our complete protection.
